'Working for the government as a freelance interpreter or translator'

Early in December 2023, the NGTV, ORT&V, NSV, ZZP-Nederland, FNV Zelfstandigen and PZO entered into a partnership to improve the negotiating position of interpreters and translators with regard to their terms of employment when working for government bodies.

Memorandum 'Working conditions for the government'

The collaborating organisations have drawn up a memorandum in which we jointly argue for a change in the system for the tendering of interpreting and translation services by the government. The most important changes are:

  • agreements on terms and conditions and rates will be made collectively between the client (the government) and the contractor(s) (the interpreters/translators). The professional associations will do this on behalf of their members with the help of the FNV, PZO and ZZP-NL.
  • mediation agencies will match supply and demand on the basis of the agreements between the client and the contractor. They will act purely as mediators and will not be involved in rates or conditions.

This vision is supported by legislation and regulations. Read a summary of the main points we want to achieve through the link below (only in Dutch).
